Maybe it is true that we don't know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we don' t know what we have been missing until it arrives. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don’t expect love in return; but be content that love has grown in your own heart. It takes an hour to like someone, a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. Don’t rely on one's appearance; it can deceive. Don’t rely on wealth; even that fades away. Rely on someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts others, too. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness waits for those who cry, those who have been hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You can't go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.(1)You should rely on someone who makes you smile_______________.A、because a smile can make your dark time easier.B、because a smile is bright.C、because you have nothing.D、because you can believe someone(2)What does the word “assurance” mean in the first paragraph?A、returnB、promiseC、maintainD、storage(3)In the third paragraph, “Always put yourself in other's shoes” means_______________.A、you should try other's shoes before you buy it.B、you should make yourself small enough.C、you should consider from another person's aspect.D、None of the above.(4) If you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying when you die, you areA、SatisfiedB、UpsetC、SadD、Indifferent(冷漠的)(5)What has been mentioned in the passage?A、to tell us not to demand too muchB、to warn us not to believe in appearanceC、to consider other people and learn to forgiveD、all of the above

In writing assignments in English classes my students frequently raise the topic of friendship. Reading what they write, I start to understand Chinese friendship obligations. Chinese can usually expect more from their friends than Americans can. For instance, once a student wrote that she understood that her friend wanted to go shopping. My student was busy and really had no time to do that, but she kept silent, put her work aside and went shopping with her friend. This is quite different from what American young people would say about friendship. In the U.S. you feel free to ask your friend for help, but you recognize that the friend may say no, if they give you a reason. A friend in China is someone who, sensing that you are in need in some way, offers to assist you without waiting to be asked. In China there are few limits on what you can ask or expect of a friend.Another difference is that Chinese expect friendships to be more lasting. They think a true friendship is a relationship that endures through changes in the lives of the friends. In the U.S. a person is likely to change even “best friends” several times over the years. Even the relationship in which people feel close emotionally and tell each other their secrets and personal problems may not survive life changes such as a move to another city, graduation from university, a significant change in economic circumstances, or the marriage of one of the friends. I think the reason is that friendship, like so many other relationships in the U.S. including marriage, depends on frequent interaction with the other person. If the people involved do not see each other and inter act regularly, the relationship is likely to fade and die.(1)What may an American girl do if she is busy when her friend asks her to go shopping?A、She may keep silent.B、She may put her work aside and go shopping with her friend.C、She may say no, giving reasons.D、she may help you without waiting to be asked.(2)Which of the following statements is true?A、Chinese people don't feel free to ask their friends for help.B、Chinese people always try to help their friends without being asked.C、Americans wouldn't offer help when you ask.D、Americans always say no to their friends.(3)Which of the following sayings can properly describe Chinese friendship?A、A friend in need is a friend indeed.B、Love me, love my dog.C、Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.D、None of the above.(4)According to the passage, why are Americans likely to change their friends several times over the years?A、Because this is their nature.B、Because they don't have best friends all through their lives.C、Because American friendship depends on frequent interaction with the other person.D、Because American friendship is to fade and die.(5)What is the most proper title for this passage?A、Chinese FriendshipB、American FriendshipC、FriendshipD、Friendship in China and America

One silly question I simply can't stand is "How do you feel". Usually the question is asked of a man in action--a man on the go, walking along the street, or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? He'll probably say, "Fine, I'm all right." But "you've put a bug in his ear" — maybe now he's not sure. If you are a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk, that he did not realize that morning. It starts him worrying a little. First thing you know, he looks in a mirror to sec if everything is all right, while you go merrily on your way asking someone else, "How do you feel?"Every question has its time and place. It's perfectly acceptable, for instance, to ask "How do you feel?" if you're visiting a close friend in the hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying to make a train, or sitting at his desk working, it's no time to ask him that silly question. When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays was in his eighties, someone asked him "How do you feel", Shaw put him in his place. "When you reach my age", he said, "either you feel all right or you're dead."1).According to the writer, greetings, such as "How do you feel?" _________ .A. show one's consideration for othersB. are a good way to make friendsC. are proper to ask a man in actionD. generally make one feel uneasy2).The question "How do you feel?" seems to be correct and suitable when asked of ________ .A. a man working at his deskB. a person having lost a close friendC. a stranger who looks somewhat worriedD. a friend who is ill3).The writer seems to feel that a busy man should _________ .A. be praised for his effortsB. never be asked any questionC. not be botheredD. be discouraged from working so hard4).George Bernard Shaw's reply in the passage shows his ________ .A. cheerfulnessB. clevernessC. abilityD. politeness5)."You've put a bug in his ear "means that you've _________ .A. made him laughB. shown concern for himC. made fun of himD. given him some kind of warning

共用题干第三篇The Balance between Fluency and AccuracyTo be able to speak English with fluency and accuracy is a goal of many Chinese English learners.Fluency can be simply defined as"being able to communicate ideas without having to stop and think too much about what one is saying";speaking accurately means"speaking without errors of grammar and vocabulary".However, the fact is that many students find that the faster they try to speak, the more mistakes they make. And,when they slow down, there may be fewer errors though it can sound unnatural. So,how to balance accuracy and fluency in spoken English? It can depend on the manner in which one has studied English in the past.People who tend to focus on accuracy may find that they worry too much about making mistakes. This can make them nervous or embarrassed about speaking English in public. As a result, their spoken English might not improve. This means that, although they know English grammar and vocabulary well, they might not be able to hold a good conversation. On the other hand, there are those who really like to talk and are willing to try their language out even if they make mistakes. This willingness to take risks helps them speak more fluidly. But,if they make a lot of mistakes,it may make it difficult for them to have their ideas understood. The debate about which is more important一fluency or accuracy一in the English language has lasted for a long time.Still, one thing is clear:neither of them should be absent if one is to speak a language well. How can we be sure that we can develop both? The following tips could help.Find the problem. What kind of person are you一one who focuses on accuracy or one who focuses on frequency? The first step is to recognize your problem and go to work on it.Think about situations where you've used English and how you felt about making mistakes?Do you always try some new language even though it might not be correct?Or do you feel embarrassed by mistakes?Focus on one problem at a time. When you speak English, find the mistakes you make most often. One mistake Chinese often make is omitting the"S"from the third person singular verb.Or you may speak too slowly as if you were searching for the right word and correct grammar. The next time you use English, try to work on those problems you have identified. If it's fluency, try to focus on it.If you have a problem with the third person singular, try to concentrate on when you make such errors.Don't spend time thinking about other mistakes.By choosing an area to work on,you can isolate problems and help yourself overcome them.Vary your practice. If you go to an English corner or an English club, try to change the types of activities you take part in so that you practice both fluency and accuracy.Public speaking allows you to slow down and be sure you have time to concentrate on the language.Meanwhile, discussions are good practice for fluency, especially if you don't stop each time a mistake is made.Tell the difference between fluency and speed. Some Chinese think that speaking fast is the same as speaking fluently. In fact, speaking fluently involves not only speed. It also involves stress, pronunciation and intonation. If you make a mistake in these, speaking fast will only make it worse. Don't sacrifice understanding for speed.Record yourself. Take a tape recorder and record a conversation with a friend or a speech or talk to yourself as you do it naturally!A two-or-three-minute recording is enough. When you've finished, listen to yourself. Can you find out any error and correct it?Make it a regular practice. The more you record yourself, the more confident and natural sounding you will become.Who are likely to feel nervous or embarrassed about speaking English in public?A:Those who focus on fluency.B:Those who focus on accuracy.C:Those who speaks fast.D:Those who record themselves.
